Annual Meeting to focus on: Generosity as a way of life

by Patricia Gnazzo Pepper, Chairperson, Annual Meeting Planning Committee

September/October 2009

The theme of this year’s Annual Meeting is “Generosity as a Way of Life.”  In a turbulent economic time, what unique witness does the church have to offer?

The Christian Century magazine pointed to a recent study which shows that people grounded in faith plan to maintain their giving in spite of the downturn.(1)  On average, people of faith give considerably more than other donors surveyed.  We know that members in our Massachusetts Conference churches are not only generous with their money, but with their expertise, their passion and their energy.  The Commonwealth -– even the world –- needs us to build our generosity in such a time as this.

This year’s gathering will focus on considering “how we may spur one another toward love and good deeds.  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Rev. Dr. Gregory Jones, Dean of Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina will be the keynote speaker.  There will be dynamite worship, informative seminars, and great networking opportunities.  Also, the business of the Conference will be engaged.

Help celebrate the tradition, vitality and covenant of our churches.  Join us in Worcester!
