Job Opening: Church Administrator & Communications Coordinator - Walpole
Church Administrator & Communications Coordinator
United Church in Walpole is an active, growing congregation seeking a talented, competent individual to serve as Church Administrator & Communications Coordinator.
 
As Communications Coordinator, s/he will:
  • Prepare and produce weekly worship bulletin.
  • Prepare and produce brief weekly email newsletter.
  • Prepare and produce comprehensive monthly newsletter (hard copy and electronic).
  • Be proficient in, or able to learn quickly, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint), Constant Contact, Church Windows.
  • Work closely with church members to gather and organize information.
  • Work closely with web steward for updating and modifying website information.
  • Pay attention to detail, have good writing and proof-reading skills.
 As Church Administrator, s/he will:
  • Oversee office operations (files, equipment, etc.).
  • Maintain churchs master calendar.
  • Work closely with pastor to coordinate schedules for pastor and church functions.
  • Work closely with church treasurer to manage the accounts payable and payroll functions.
  • Update and maintain church databases, including data entry and the running and distribution of reports.
  • Coordinate non-church uses of church space.
  • Coordinate work schedule with other staff members to ensure building is properly staffed.
  • Work collegially with church members, committees, and volunteers.
  • Order office and building supplies.
 On a day-to-day basis, s/he will:
  • Serve as the first face of the congregation. A welcoming, patient attitude is important.
  • Respond to inquiries, direct phone calls, take messages, assist visitors, track maintenance issues, handle occasional urgent situations.
  • Work cooperatively and supportively with other administrative, programmatic and ministerial staff.
New Initiatives: The United Church in Walpole is in a time of transition and growth. The selected candidate will be a key participant in new initiatives and transformation efforts necessary to ensure the continued flourishing of the church and its mission. Once on the job, the new hire will have the opportunity to develop new systems and procedures (filing, electronic, communications, and otherwise) that contribute to the efficiency, effectiveness and attractiveness of the churchs life and ministry.
 
Requirements: Efficient computer skills; positive people skills; top-notch organizational ability; attention to detail; creativity; possess an understanding of and support of the churchs inclusive, progressive mission and purpose; ability to juggle multiple tasks with grace, flexibility,  good humor,  patience, and discretion.  Applicant must be willing to undergo a CORI check.
Salary & Benefits:
  • Work Week: 26 - 32 hours/week.
  • Pay: Salary range of $30,000 to $35,000.
  • Benefits negotiable.
  • Start Date: June 2013. Some flexibility is possible.

Organist/Choir Director - Hatfield, MA


The First Congregational Church of Hatfield is looking for an organist/choir director, with a position opening on July 1, 2013.  The Music Director shall be contracted for 56 services per year to include Sunday services, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Luminarium Concert, and one additional special service.  Four paid absences are accommodated per year.  The position pays $7500.00 per year, but the annual fee may be negotiated if the applicant has experience or special skill. Part Time Office Administrator in Newton


Dynamic, active parish church in Newton is seeking a part-time office administrator to work with a collegial staff in the church office. This position requires 30 hours/week for 42 weeks of the year, and 18 hours per week for ten weeks during the summer. Some church events may require a flexible work week from time to time. Responsibilities include preparation and printing of weekly worship bulletin and monthly newsletter, office reception and operation (answering phones, keeping records), building care management including interaction with serveral tenants, short-term renters and vendors of repair and maintenance services for the church and parsonage, and website/email/social media communication. Ability to keep strict confidences, join the hospitable character of the parish and oversee certain staff and vendors is essential. Comfort with our Open and Affirming commitment necessary.

The successful candidate will possess at a minimum an Bachelor's Degree plus 4 years of experience. Competence with Excel, Word and Outlook is required, small office computer network management and/or website development a plus. Comfort with and willingness to learn new software is essential. Attention to detail and esthetics is expected. Experience in a non-profit or parish environment a plus. Our new colleague will be self-motivated, professional and mature, able to multi-task and communicate clearly with church staff and volunteers of all ages.

Compensation will include a competitive hourly rate, three weeks paid vacation, 5 sick days per year, and a lump sum available for direction to health care and/or pension.

TITLEChurch Administrator
 
REPORTS TO: Pastor, with input from the Prudential Board and Leadership Team
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
       Supports Pastor with administrative duties, and is responsible for production of flyers, publications, and mailings, including, but not limited to: weekly bulletins, monthly newsletters, seasonal letters, and the annual report;
       Checks, responds to and directs all internal and external inquiries via mail, phone, voicemail messages, and email;
       Maintains communication through churchs website and Constant Contact;
       Executes advertising for church related events and listings with local media outlets;
       Coordinates and schedules weddings, baptisms and funerals, in conjunction with the Pastor;
       Maintains master church calendar and fields requests for building usage and rentals, in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
       Outstanding guest relations skills and phone manner;
       Maintains confidentiality in all matters relating to the church;
       Excellent computer skills, competent in Microsoft Office and able to provide website maintenance;
       Self-motivated, team-player, who is able to multi-task and communicate clearly with church staff and volunteers;
       Able to use and maintain all standard office equipment.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
       September 1st June 30th: Twenty (20) hours per week,
      Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 
       July 1st August 31st: Twelve (12) hours per week,
      Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 
 
Pay is $15.00/hour. Employment is conditional upon passing a CORI check. Annual performance reviews will impact salary.

Position:  Part Time Salaried
Hours:   20-30 hours/week
 
The United Church in Walpole is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, organized, faithful Director of Christian Education and Spiritual Formation to work with church families ranging in age from birth to adult. This leadership position will create, enhance and vitalize ongoing Christian Education programs for all ages. The Director of Christian Education & Spiritual Formation will report to the Christian Education Committee.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • In conjunction with the Christian Education Committee and in consultation with the Senior Pastor, oversee teaching ministries, and develop a comprehensive program of faith formation (including the selection of curriculum) for the children, youth, and adults of the United Church.
  • Provide recruitment, training and support for Sunday School teachers and substitutes.
  • Develop and offer training and spiritual formation opportunities that will inspire the teachers and youth leaders in their work with our children and youth.
  • Develop and offer spiritual formation opportunities for adults.
  • Oversee daily church school operations and special events with support from the CE Committee and members of the congregation (including, but not limited to weekly church school classes, Christmas Pageant, Rally Day, mission projects, etc).
  • Be present on Sunday mornings, along with CE persons of the month, to administer the Sunday School program and ensure that church operates within Safe Church guidelines.
  • Maintain good communication with church school families and the congregation through electronic methods, mail and personal contact.
  • Provide resources as needed for our youth group advisors and Confirmation leaders.
  • Assist in worship by periodically preparing and delivering the childrens message.
  • Recruit and schedule the volunteer nursery child care workers.
  • Attend monthly CE committee meetings and weekly staff meetings.
  • Work with the CE Committee to prepare the CE yearly budget and CE annual report.
  • Review past years successes and missed opportunities with CE Committee for use in developing the next years overall plans and objectives, and curriculum.
  • Work with CE Committee and the Pastor to identify ways to encourage attendance and promote our CE Programs within the church and throughout the surrounding communities.
Successful candidate will be expected to become involved in the New England Association of United Church Educators (NEAUCE) and MACUCC Christian Education Community of Practice.  
 
Qualifications: The successful candidate for the position will be energetic, positive, flexible, and detail-oriented and possess a strong, secure faith. The position requires a commitment to the Christian faith.  3-5 years leadership experience with a proven track record of development and implementation of comprehensive new programs is preferred. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people are needed.  College degree preferred.  UCC Christian Educator Certification, teaching experience, additional training, workshops, continuing education a plus.
 Salary based on experienced and within the guidelines recommended by the Massachusetts Conference, United Church of Christ.
