THE JUST PEACE PLAYERS
Who are the Just Peace Players?
We are Christians committed to sharing our many visions of peace and justice through liturgical drama. We are all ministers who volunteer our time to be in the Players. We are pursuing God's call working as a lawyer, teaching at a seminary, designing fiber arts, attending seminary, working at a blood bank, ministering as active members in churches, and as hospital chaplains. Every play is written collaboratively after a time of prayer, reflection and Bible study. We have been performing across New England at churches, conferences, prisons and national events for over a decade. We were given the Haystack Award by the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ in 2000 for outstanding contributions to peace and justice. In 2003 with the support of the Genesis Fund from the national United Church of Christ and the Massachusetts Conference, we performed universities and seminaries in China. We hope our ministry enables people to encounter God's word in new ways, encouraging and calling us to do justice wherever we find ourselves.
“A Small World” helps congregations gain a refreshing perspective on our world as we view it through the eyes of someone who has never been here before. Through song, poetry, rap, drama, and prayer we invite the congregation to begin to discern how our decisions impact our neighbors and how we can live justly in our divided world. This play has a strong biblical focus, and has been specially designed for Sunday morning worship. We are happy to remain after the performance for a discussion and suggest this be done in a forum setting.
“I Love to Tell the Story” is a dramatic presentation of the stories of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender people and our allies. We explore God’s call to love our neighbors and to make our churches inclusive, Open and Affirming communities, places of welcome and safety for everyone. The play is available for Sunday morning worship and evening events. We provide a literature table with information about these themes, and will remain after the performance for a discussion with the congregation.
