Welcomers Instructions
Who should be a Welcomer? It is best to choose outgoing people who can meet people easily. Often it helps to include a couple of people who are new to the church as they remember what it is like to be new.
Where to begin? Bring your group of welcomers together and do some prayer and bible study of how important hospitality is. This is not just a “job” but a sacred task. Pray for each other and for the people you will welcome.
On the day you serve-Arrive early and be sure you are wearing your name tag. Have a supply of tags available for your guest. Remember when you greet someone the key question is: “Hi, I don’t think we have met before”. This says nothing about membership and is much better than “Are you new?”
Be prepared to take a newcomer around the church, introduce him/her/they to Church School teachers, ushers, staff, etc.
During and after worship-If it is feasible for you to sit with the newcomer please do so. If not, try to reconnect after worship and invite (not insist) to the coffee hour. If the newcomer goes to the Coffee Hour, be sure to introduce to at leastthree people. If you see folk standing alone be sure to initiate contact and introductions.
Relax, enjoy and greet warmly!!
